Related Issue #3: To what extent should internationalism Be pursued?
Internationalism is both an expansionism term and a mindset, and can lead to both positive and negative effects. In the many negative effects major ones to be considered are climate change, disease spread, and water accessibility. For example the steam engine that was invented in the 1600's. Due to globalization and increased internationalism motor vehicles exploded in the 1900's.On the negative side this lead to immense pollution of many varieties, the motor vehicle boom also allowed diseases to travel much easier and spread much faster. With motors and engines also came the spread of multinational corporations, who are notorious for taking advantage of groups and exploitation. In this same matter they often incorrectly use the resources available, that along with climate change has lead to a global water shortage.
But on the other hand internationalism isn't always neagtive, over time the global quality of life has, genearally increased.Without internationalism the global community would not exist and modernization would be far far behind. Isolationism would be a far more common occurrence, and inventions would often just fizzle out with no difference made.
Another example of Internationalism being used for good, is Clara Hughes, the athlete ambassador, is a part of the Right To Play organisation. Right To Play is an NGO (Non-governmental organisation) whose primary purpose is to improve to lives of children in developing countries through sports and play. Clara is a classic example of a person who has taken health and internationalism into her hands because no one else would. Internationalism should be pursued to the extent that we can see the world the way Clara Hughes does, as a place where a friend, helps a friend, who helps someone who could never help back. Internationalism should be pursued to the extent that nations help nations who can never help them back.
