Hurricane Maria barreled toward Turks and Caicos on Friday September the 22nd. After already taking its tole on other Caribbean islands with winds and rain that destroyed homes, caused flooding, devastated economies and left at least 32 people dead. Maria is the second devastating hurricane to hit the Caribbean this month, as well as the strongest storm to hit the U.S. territory of
Puerto Rico in nearly 90 years. It knocked out the island's power and several rivers hit record flood levels.
Unfortunately reporters say death tole is likely to rise in the Caribbeans when the searches resume at daybreak. The Puerto Rico government imposed a dusk till dawn curfew through for the islands 3.4 million people. Among those killed Puerto Rico were eight people who drowned, about 32 kilometers west of Sun Juan.
On a more positive outlook on things. more than 4,000 were rescued form flooded areas in Tao Baja. Along with many other rescues being made all over the islands.
In Dominica, Maria damaged about 95 per cent of roofs, the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs said.
It struck as a Category 5 storm on Monday, ripping foliage off plants and obliterating the island's vital agricultural sector.
The storm caused flooding in the Dominican Republic when it passed nearby from Wednesday night. There will be a long road to recovery in these areas.
As I read and hear about all these tragedies that are happening around the world for example, hurricane Irma that did so much damage in Houston and surrounding areas. Or the earthquakes happening in Mexico, and the most recent of the natural disasters that are happening hurricane Maria. My heart goes out to all the people around the world that is effected by these tragedies. There is not much we can do about these natural disasters there is no way to prepare for what mother nature might throw at us. All we can do is band together and help everyone out as much as we can, we've done it before, and we will continue to do it again and again.
