Entomologists gather in Brazil to stop Zika mosquito
Standing from high atop a bridge near downtown Maceió, on the northeast coast of Brazil, you can see thousands of homes below. In and around them is a threat that makes almost no sound. A unique mosquito: Aedes egypti. It evolved to live with us. Unlike most mosquitoes that prefer to bite animals this one prefers people instead. It also carries several dangerous diseases including Zika. This virus has been found in 30 countries already and there are still concerns that it might possibly spread more.
Is the virus moving northward?
The mosquito Aedes egypti does not live in Canada, but researchers fear the virus could develop in home grown mosquitoes, for example the tiger mosquito. So far no one has found a way to stop the spread. These mosquitoes are container breeders says mosquito breeder and specialist, which it mens they depend on humans for the type of habitat to breed in. They say if you get away from big cities you won't find them at all. That is why these mosquitoes are so difficult to locate and extinguish,it would be easy if they lived in swaps and ponds like regular mosquitoes. These insects like to breed in tiny tiny little spaces.
