Summary: The basic premise of the book is to retell the story of Peter Pan as adults who are fighting the Nazis during World War 2.
It starts off with a old man(Gilbert) telling his story to a journalist, he was born in 1926 in Calais France both his parents died in 1931 and he was sent to a orphanage at the age of five this is where he began. He met other orphans unlucky children born with nothing at all. While he was at the orphanage World War 2 had broke out, the germans were making bombing runs overtop of Calais for a couple of days. This is where he met Peter Panzerfaust that had come to the orphanage to help the children, by this time the six boys that had survived the bombing were in there teens (Felix, Julien, Alain, Claude, Maurice, and Gilbert). Peter's mission was to get out of the city and he had come to the orphanage for help, the brave boys agreed after all it was their only escape out of Calais.
After many encounters with the Nazis infantry and guards Peter and the 6 boys narrowly made it out of Calais by stealing a Nazis patrol jeep from a few guards. There they picked up a flight attendant named Wendy and her boy Michael and another passenger by the name of John, there plane had been shot down and the rest of the crew was dead. Later the group found a old abandoned farm house in the country side. They later decided to stay there thinking they had already risked enough getting out of Calais and Peter agreed.
After months of good times and peaceful days, one night everybody was having a good time until John on guard heard tanks and gun fire coming over the hills. They realized the french and the germans were having it out right in the field in front of the farmhouse, everybody evacuated the farmhouse, all but one Gilbert was screaming out where's Alain then he spotted him in the window. By that time it was too late a tank shell had struck the farm house blowing it to bits killing Alain, Felix armed with a gun went into a rage killing every german in sight around the wreckage of the farm house. Felix was outnumbered and Peter and the group then had to leave him not wanting to risk another death. A french officer told them to find the highway and find someone to take you to Paris where you will be safe. After months of living in safety and still remembering Alain and Felix, one day over a radio "French Forces Collapse On The NorthSide Of Paris" nobody new how to accept it the Nazis had invaded paris. As the Nazis rolled into the town of Paris they brought prisoners and out of the group Felix ran out shouting Peter, Gilbert but then immediately was struck down by a guard, Felix tried to surrender but was struck again. The last thing was said was seeing Felix was the catalyst it was the day we stopped running and embraced our fate.
Overall i really liked the book, even though it was fiction it felt like the old man or Gilbert was telling a real story from the war. Really enjoyed it and would definitely recommend it 9/10
